    Virginia Creeper Vines

    Vines are a beautiful addition to any garden; they can be used to provide a screen or add interest to a bare wall or fence.

     

    Dutchman’s Pipe (Sristolochia durior)

    A fast growing, vigorous, twining vine it has large leaves; good for providing a screen for a patio or verandah.  Flowers are pipe-shaped.  Grows in full to partial sun.  (Height: 9m)

     

    American Bittersweet (Celastrus scandens)

    This vine has yellow-white flowers n the spring with glossy green foliage and yellow foliage in the fall with masses of yellos/orange/red fruit.  A hardy, fast growing vine, it requires strong vine support.  Grows to 8m in height in sun or partial sun.

     

    Climbing Hydrangea (Hydrangea anomala petiolaris)

    A self-clinging, flowering vine, it is shade tolerant and ideal for Northern or Western exposure.  It has round to ovate toothed leaves with large white flowers in June/July.  It is a slowing growing vine but worth the wait.  Grows to 7m-15m.

     

    Dropmore Honeysuckle (Lonicera x brownii ‘Dropmore Scarlet’)

    A vigorous, twisting vine, it requires a trellis or arbor.  Clusters of slender scarlet flowers bloom from June to September good for attracting hummingbirds.  Will grow to 5m in full sun or part sun.

     

    Goldflame Honeysuckle (Lonicera x heckrottii)

    This woody vine, has twining branches and can be grown without support.  The flowers are purple/pink and yellow clusters that bloom from June to fall.  It will grow in sun or part sun.  This vine should be pruned every year.

     

    Virginia Creeper (Parthenocisuus quinquefolia)

    A self-clinging, fast growing vine, it can grow to 20m at full height.  It has green-white flowers in the spring, blue-black berries in the fall and red leaves in the fall.

     

    Engelman’s Ivy (Parthenocisuus quinquefolia)

    A vigorous grower, it has smaller leaves than the Virgina Creeper with the same coloring, flower and berry.  It is also a self-clinging vine.  Grows well in full sun or full shade.

     

    Boston Ivy (Parthenocisuus tricuspidate ‘Veitchii’)

    A self-clinging vine, it has large lustrous green leaves that turn brilliant red in the fall.   It has green-white flowers in the spring and blue-black fruit in the fall.  It grows well in sun or shade and can reach 20m.

     

    Clematis

    This vine grows in full sun to part sun with varying colours of flowers and blooming times depending on the variety.  Roots require mulching to keep them cool in the summer.

     

    Trumpet vine (Campsis radicans)

    A fast growing vine with orange-scarlet trumpet shaped flowers that bloom from June to September. Will grow to 10m.
