The Marantaceae are a family, the arrowroot family, of flowering plants consisting of 31 genera and around 530 species, defining it as one of the most species-rich families in its order. Species of this family are found in lowland tropical forests of Africa, Asia, and the Americas. It is also called the prayer plant.

The leaves of some species are used in basket weaving and for wrapping food. Several Calathea species produce wax, and some have edible flowers and tubers. A number are cultivated as houseplants for their striking patterned foliage.

Plus, prayer plants help clear the air in your home by filtering indoor air pollutants. Colourful and dependable, prayer plants do well in any kind of light, although it's best to avoid direct sunlight. Prayer plant also thrives in slightly moist soil so water whenever the soil feels like it's just starting to dry out
