Almond

Flowering almond, or double flowering plum, is a deciduous tree with gorgeous spring flowers blooming pink with double petals. This medium growing Rosaceae family member is a lovely addition to accent shrub borders around parking lots, strip plantings, or around a deck or patio.

Apple

Domesticated tree and fruit of the rose family Rosaceae, one of the most widely cultivated tree fruits. Apple flowers are showy with five white petals, often tinged with pink, and numerous stamens. The flowers are pollinated by bees and other insects, and most varieties require cross-pollination for fertilization.

Beech

The beech tree is deciduous tree that grows very tall, and has a smooth, grey-blue bark. When the spring arrives, you will notice the buds on the beech trees opening out into deep, emerald-green leaves.

Birch

A birch is a thin-leaved deciduous hardwood tree found in almost all countries having a temperate climate. Birch trees are recognizable by their bark, which peels off in strips in all birches except the gray birch. Bark of the birch can be white, grey, yellow, silver or black in colour.

Buckeye

The Ohio buckeye is a neatly rounded tree with low, sweeping branches and dense foliage that provides deep shade. Its name comes from the ‘buckeyes,’ a small, dark brown nut with a light patch resembling the eye of a deer, which grows inside a rounded prickly fruit capsule.

Burning Bush

This large bush has a natural open form that shows well in borders, beds, and even containers. The plant will get tiny flowers from May to June that turn into tiny dangling red berries.

Caragana

Caragana, most commonly known as Siberian pea shrub, is a genus of shrubs or small trees that are native to the cold, semi-arid regions. When used as an ornamental, the form of the shrub can be altered with selective pruning as it grows.

Cherry

The two basic cherry tree types are those that yield sweet cherries that can be eaten immediately picked off the tree and sour cherry or baking cherries. Both cherry tree types ripen early and are ready for harvest in the late spring. Most sweet cherries need a pollinizer while sour cherries are predominantly self-fruitful.

Hornbeam

Hornbeams are hardwood trees in the flowering plant genus Carpinus in the birch family Betulaceae. Common hornbeam is a deciduous, broadleaf tree which has pale grey bark with vertical markings, and sometimes a short, twisted trunk which develops ridges with age.

Hydrangea

Panicle hydrangeas – also known aspeegee hydrangeas, hardy hydrangeas, and Limelight hydrangeas, are the easiest to grow, most adaptable of all hydrangeas. These beautiful blooms will go from white to pink or red in the fall when the temperatures drop.

Katsura

The Katsura tree can make an excellent specimen or shade tree in landscapes with its clean fresh looking foliage and attractive pyramidal form when young that will spread as it ages. Besides looking attractive, the Katsura has this neat trick of giving off a subtle sweet smell as it turns colors in the Fall.

Lilac

The lilac is a deciduous, multi-stemmed tree with an irregular, rounded outline that blooms in the springtime. Lilacs can grow as bushes or trees and blooms with the most unmistaken scent of strong perfume.

Linden trees are medium to large shade trees; they tend to have thick, pillar-like trunks with dark bark that begins smooth but develops furrows as the tree matures. The linden tree's flowers, a favorite of bees from May to July. Some beekeepers cultivate lindens specifically to boost honey production.

Magnolia

Red Maple

The red maple is a tall, straight tree that tends to divide its main stem several times and is a good, fast-growing shade tree, but pruning and maintenance may be needed to keep its form strong and avoid breakage if it is shading your house.

The Norway Maple is extremely tolerant to different growing environments and has grown in popularity on lawns and along streets, however, their winged seeds dispersed readily in the wind and germinate quickly and their towering height is impacting the regeneration of sugar maples.

Mountain Ash

Mountain Ash is a small tree or shrub from the rose family. The leaves are deciduous, lack thorns, and have simple or pinnate feather-like leaves. The most distinguishable aspect of a Mountain Ash tree is the massive clusters of bright orange berries which adorn the foliage from spring to summer. They are not poisonous but bitter and unpleasant to humans.

Sweetgum
